Earlier this week, Mary J. Blige gave her fans a glimpse of a new song, entitled ‘Need Someone’, from her ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act 1)’ album during a preview of her appearance on ‘Later…with Jools Holland’. Well, the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul’s spot on the show eventually aired yesterday as scheduled and she performed the track in its entirety.
‘Need Someone’ will be included on the ‘My Life II’ alongside the lead singles ’25/8′ and ‘Mr. Wrong (Ft. Drake)’. The album will debut on November 21st and will compete with Rihanna’s ‘Talk That Talk’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Immortal’ for the top spot on the Billboard 200.
Watch Blige’s performance of ‘Need Someone’ below:
There is a subtle honesty to Blige’s voice that makes almost every song she sings sound believable. She previously stated that ‘Need Someone’ was targeted at her younger self and knowing of her past struggles with drugs, alcohol and abuse – as detailed in her Vh1 ‘Behind the Music’ special – there is no doubt that she performed this track with that purpose in mind.
