Mariah Carey has sold over 200 million records worldwide, scored 18 #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and is the top-selling artist of the last 20 years. However, despite her countless commercial achievements and awards, there are many who discredit her impact on the music industry.
Indeed, Carey has been noted as the pioneer of Hip-Pop, redefining the R&B, Pop and Hip-Hop genres as well as influencing several artists including Beyonce, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears. Still, some people still refuse to acknowledge her as a legend comparable to Whitney Houston or Madonna.
