New Song: Mary J. Blige – ‘The Living Proof’

Mary J. Blige continues to prove that she is the reigning queen of sombre music. The singer contributes her raw vocals to the soundtrack of ‘The Help’ on the song ‘The Living Proof’, a dark yet uplifting ballad that was produced by Harvey Mason Jr.

Listen to the record below:

This track proved two things: Blige knows how to sound passionate on any song and her voice is more strained than ever. Whether intentional or beyond her control, Blige sounded painful throughout most of the song and I don’t mean emotionally.

Can we please get some honey and a vocal coach in this dancery? No more vocal drama.

I love Mary, but shes been sounding like Kendu nutted in her throat 6 months ago and left it there. The BET Awards, Essence Festival and now this track. Lawd, can somebody please get the same doctors that pumped Lil Kim’s stomach to Mary’s rescue?

This is Mary J’s usual style of singing ballads. Also keep in mind her voice has aged pretty consistently. With that said she has way more control than she has had on her previous records.
