@Rihbaby- Trent said more number ones for a female GROUP…and Mariah has the females #1′s on lock!!!!!

@MzGoodBadGirl- The singles are WITH Diana Ross…some were billed as The Supremes and some were billed as Diana Ross and The Supremes.

Only TWO were billed as Diana Ross & The Supremes.

In 1967, 3 years after they scored their first #1 single (they had 10 by Summer of 1967), Florence Ballard, founder and soprano of the group was fired and replaced by Cindy Birdsong (who is in this picture to the right…she was formerly a Bluebelle).

Also in 1967, HDH (who had written the majority of the group’s hits) left Motown after royalty disputes…so with fan-favourite Florence out of the group and creative masterminds Holland-Dozier-Holland gone, from 1967-1970 the group (now billed Diana Ross & The Supremes – just after Flo’s now-legendary dismissal), the group struggled, only managing two #1 hits, despite gaining 10 from 1964-1967.

It’s also interesting to note that in 1970, when Diana left and brilliant new lead singer Jean Terrell stepped in, the group’s debut single “Up The Ladder To The Roof” was a massive top ten hit and actually did far better than Ross’ debut single “Reach Out (And Touch Somebody’s Hand)” which only peaked at #20.

The group scored a second top 10 smash with the new lineup of Jean Terrell, Cindy Birdsong and original member Mary Wilson with critically-acclaimed “Stoned Love” the following year.
