Did you know that Lauryn Hill was the first woman to be nominated for 10 Grammy Awards at a single event?
The Hip-Hop/R&B icon received 10 nods at the 1999 ceremony for her critically acclaimed ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ album. Beyonce later matched Hill’s accomplishments in 2010 with her ‘I Am…Sasha Fierce’ project.
In 1999, Hill also became the first woman to win 5 awards in a single night, a record that was later matched by Alicia Keys (2002), Norah Jones (2003), Beyonce (2004), Amy Winehouse (2008) and Alison Krauss (2009). However, Beyonce once again exceeded Hill’s feat when she received 6 trophies 2010.

“The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” is a classic; Beyonce It’s in my contract to steal from real songwriters Knowles shouldn’t even be metioned in the same category as Lauryn Hill .
GO Lauryn! Beyonce not so much lol
I think Adele will either tie or beat Beyonce’s record in the 2012 Grammy Ceremony.
@Truthfully Speaking
I agree! I’m a huge fan of both Adele and Beyoncé.
And why shouldn’t Beyoncé be mentioned in the same category as Lauryn? She broke her record. Actually she tied it, THEN she broke it 6 years later.
16 Grammy’s. ‘Tis all.
Seriously you know that Beyonce wins were not in major categories Lauryn Hill- and futhermore she didn’t win her 5 grammys in 2004 from the same cd (Luther Vandross). I thought u were a Mariah stan, but again u put out info on Beyonce like she’s QUEEN OF THE NIGHT
NAOMI….. TRY 26 GRAMMYS from Alison Krauss SIT DOWN!
BEYONCE ONLY WON THOSE GRAMMYS W/COLLABORATIONS WITH OTHER MAJOR ARTIST… now that those catorgories have been eliminated– I’m sure her count won’t be growing…..
I don’t see what “major” categories have to do with it. A Grammy is a Grammy, and she won six of them in one night. One of those six just happened to be Song of the Year.
@daboss
A great amount of the Grammys that Alison Krauss has won were also from collaborations.
@Bri….No a Grammy was not a Grammy until 2012. When the board changed the entire format so artist like Beyonce , Kanye and Rih Rih couldn’t load up on trophies. As for Alison- her awards are for material that she wrote, produced or arranged…as a solo artist, leader of the group or w/Robert Plant who collaborated with her on the entire cd, ALBUM of the Year. Beyonce is not Alison …believe this. Beyonce’s 16 Grammy are a slap in Aretha Franklin’s face. Those catorgories were not even around when she won best r/b female for a record number of consecutive years. Beyonce has made sure her cd never came out the years of Mary and Alicia.. **she is not the queen of R/B**
Now how many Grammys will Beyonce win –she will be nominated against male performers now….
Ok…but nearly all of Alison’s Grammy’s are in the Country or Bluegrass categories, not major categories. The only times she’s won in major categories was for the Robert Plant collaboration. (As far as I can remember anyway). So what’s the difference between her winning in Country categories and Beyoncé winning in the Pop or R&B categories?
Out of the 16 Grammys that Beyoncé has won, 9 of them were for her solo performances.
Out of the 26 Grammys that Alison Krauss has won, 3 of them were for her solo performances. A lot of them were Union Station Grammys.
I’m fully aware that Beyoncé isn’t Alison Krauss. You’re the one who brought on the comparison. I’m just pointing out your hypocrisy.
And I highly doubt that Beyoncé strategically plans to not release her albums at the same time as Alicia Keys or Mary J. Blige seeing as though she’s been nominated in some categories with them. And according to my research, she’s beat Mary twice.
No, she’s not the “Queen of R&B”, but she is the winner of 16 legitimate Grammys.
Oh, and another thing…I notice earlier you said that Beyoncé didn’t win 5 Grammys in one night for the same CD. Uh…yeah she did. The Luther duet was on both of their CDs.
