Sales Predictions: Rihanna & Mary J. Blige Set To Disappoint
Yesterday, we asked you to vote for which album amongst Rihanna’s ‘Talk That Talk’, Mary J. Blige’s ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act 1)’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Immortal’ would emerge atop the Billboard 200 next week. However, in a shocking twist of fate, none of these releases are being projected to claim the top spot!
Nickelback have been earmarked to claim the #1 spot on the tally with their ‘Here & Now’ album. The record is on track to sell 225K-250K copies within the next 7 days compared to Rihanna’s ‘Talk That Talk’, which will enter at #2 with sales of 180K-200K.
Mary J. Blige’s ‘My Life II’, on the other hand, is on track to debut at #4 with 120K-140K units. These figures depict a considerable sales dip from her last album, ‘Stronger with Each Tear’, which sold 332K copies in its first week.
Finally, Michael Jackson’s ‘Immortal’ is predicted to sell 50K-60K copies at #7. However, after receiving considerably less promotion from Epic Records than ‘My Life II’ and ‘Talk That Talk’ as well as entailing no new material, the album is performing as expected.

I honestly think MJB will have a considerable boost w/ Black Friday on the horizon. Idk how much that is factored into these predictions but her fan-base may appreciate the “sale” & when they see the artsy cover & striking imagery, they may be more inclined to purchase. This may be wishful thinking, but hey..
and they said bey flopped hahahaha 300k plus, debuted at nos 1 with no hits, an album leaked almost 4 wks before release dates, and it still managed to be 2011 best selling RnB album
Those album sales for Rihanna after 6 years in the game is so damn BIONIC! I’m cool with Mary, she’s had a #1 album and is more than a decade in the game and is still in top 10 for 1st week.. But the album sales are so damn bionic.. #CurseTina

I’m not surprised. i don’t why everyone was focused on rihanna and mary. Nickleback and those other groups have a large following. just because you dont hear about a nickleback stan war doesnt mean that they dont have a large fan base.
im hoping mary get a boost though.
people need to realise that rihanna doesn’t look for 1st week sales, if she did this album wouldn’t be comming out this month, nor would the lead single be released whilst LOUD was still selling.
1week sales are just that, 1 week worth of sales. Loud debuted with similar numbers and thats now passed the 7m mark! TTT isn’t a great album but a predict it will reach 8-9m ww by 2013.

Rihanna sits right around these numbers. She’ll probably sell a few more than that. Wow at Mary’s sells. I hope her numbers turn out to be alot better than those. Those are very poor numbers for her.

I agree, the fact that after having all these singles at number one she cannot reach the #1 spot in album sales and she cannot sell at least 300k screams FLOP!

Wait, HDD is predicting Drake at #2 (thought they say he MAY upset Nickelback)….Rihanna will be #2 among new releases but not overall so she will dip lower than 2..more like 3 or 4. Either way its a flop…I mean if Rihnavy called 4′s 1st week sales (310k) a flop then TTT belongs right there wwith it
Where do I begin? Beyonce’s last album sold 2.9 mil in the US and her current one is at 900k. Um, by her standards, that IS a flop! And she’s had 8 gazillion singles out. Rihanna has always sold over time. And improved with each of her first week sales. So this is right up her alley, not to mention that her label always chooses to drop her album on the worst weeks.

People are dumb to even consider Rihanna’s album bad. Don’t ya’ll see the trend. LOUD sold 207,000 in the first week and 6 MILLION WORLDWIDE. Her first week sales were NEVER about above that range and still continuously sold because of her consistent hits. Beyonce selling 310,000 in the first week, and now her total is ONLY around 900,000( with a shit load of singles and videos) That’s terrible. #1 albums don’t mean anything if it flops. Just like Chris Brown. FAME was #1 but that shit ain’t no where near platinum. The same with Chrisette Michelle. #1 album that flopped……… NEXT

Not surprised she will end up selling just under 200K, no one is checking for Rihanna’s albums! And Im not surprised with Mary either, can anyone even name her first single? for real i don’t even know it, havent seen a video, nothingg. Do you really think Rihanna really cares about first week sales? The Album is going to sell anyway. I think people are forgetting her job: which is to make music…PERIOD!!! @NoneYa No its you who is sadly mistaken. Do your research. 4 is BARELY past 900k. And it was only certified platinum because she shipped 1million to stores. She hasn’t sold 1 million of 4 yet. Those last 90,000 copies are still sitting in the stores.
