Mariah Carey To Be Celebrated At The 2012 BET Honors

After over 21 years since the beginning of her unbelievable recording career, Mariah Carey will finally receive the recognition that she deserves from the African American community when she is presented with a special tribute at the 2012 BET Honors ceremony. In fact, the top-selling diva will be celebrated at the event alongside her idol, Stevie Wonder.
Other public figures who will receive tributes for their lifetime achievement at the 2012 BET Honors event in February include poet Maya Angelou, director Spike Lee, the Tuskegee Airmen and track coach Beverly Kearney. Among the past honorees at the show were Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Tyler Perry and Mary J. Blige.

This is fantastic news! Few people have accomplished what Carey and the rest of the listed honorees have achieved throughout their careers so it is incredible to see that BET is finally ready to acknowledge their contributions to popular culture.
However, the question that will probably be on everyone’s minds is who will honor Carey? Jennifer Hudson and Kim Burrell performed renditions of Whitney Houston’s hits in her honor yet who has the vocal ability to tackle Carey’s catalogue? I vote for Leona Lewis to be on the roster to sing ‘Anytime You Need A Friend’ because that would make it a night to remember!

Honestly… *deep sigh*… I mean, I don’t think anyone should even *try* to do a rendition of any Mariah songs. But since it has to be done, I’d say Christina Aguliera and…. ugh. Just no. I’ll be watching of course but seriously, I just hope they all make it their own and no one tries it with those high notes.

As she should be. She’s very deserving. Hopefully, BET gets some real vocalists to tribute her because I am not here for them giving her an half-as*ed tribute. I believe Leona and Christina Aguilera (if she holds off on the screaming) are the best choices for the tribute but knowing BET, they’ll pick some random, unnecessary people.

Leona would be perfect and she would do the song justice. Plus, i really think jessie J would do a good job aswell and surprise alot of people. Her cover of whitneys ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ is pretty good.
Christina Aguilera stopped being a Mariah enthusiast years ago. They don’t like one another. Besides, if Christina did the tribute, it would overshadow Mariah the diva…and she will have NONE of that. LOL
Ch… Christina is no longer here for Mariah. lol. But my choices would be Leona Lewis and Jessie J(Does Bet know them though?) But I wonder if a Diva like Patti or Aretha will tribute Mariah?

Mariah so deserves this finally after nearly a quarter of a century since she signed her first recording contract. bet BET decided to do the right thing after she nearly died to have her beautiful children almost losing her reminded them how important she is to music. who ever is chosen to pay tribute to her better not screw up
Im curious to know what the song selection will be. Clearly everybody cant sing like the Great Mariah, so whoever is on the roster to perform better be wise of the song they sing. “Emotions” & “Cant Let Go” are my favs but of course only Mariah can sing those!
Leona Lewis??.. LMAO Please.. One of the only current singers that can tribute Mariah is Beyonce.. and Trent your shady ass knows it. Melanie from X factor will fall apart within the first few seconds of her song. And Leona Lewis… No.
YESSS! Finally, i am absolutely shocked though that Alicia Keys and Mary J Blige were honoured before Mariah though but whatever, there is only one queen. Leona Lewis came to my mind first but they seriously need some gospel singers up in there cos I aint tryna here none of these pop acts attempt a Mariah song. Kelly Price needs to be involved too, she sung with Mariah for years as a backing vocalist and I believe she could do her justice.

It all depends really. If they can’t find the right person, they can bring in the people who worked with Carey (Xscape, Da Brat, Missy Elliot, Jay-Z, etc) to do the hook parts and their parts. However vocally, some over looked talent may be the way to go (Tamia, Kelly Price, Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson)
Leona can sing but her tone is up in the air. Christina wouldn’t out do a thing. Christina still lovez Mariah. It isn’t as terrible as some would like to make it. Mariah’s voice has sounded amazing in her last few performances to the person thats trying to be slick. Jordin Sparks,Patti labelle, BoysllMen and some real singers would be amazing.
i would like to see Jordin Sparks do something too because she has a powerful voice for her age. and i saw several people count out Leona Lewis. how was Trent being shady for not naming Beyonce? whenever i think of someone doing Mariah Carey i don’t think of Beyonce. but Leona will do her justice

JayZ, Rihanna, Beyonce would never pay tribute on a show like this, it is too low hyped for such major stars as they are now. And Mariah songs are not that hard to sing, they only seem difficult because of all the dubbing and extra background vocals she uses
