Did you know that Eminem is currently ranked as the best-selling Hip-Hop artist of the SoundScan era (1991 to present)?
As of January 1st 2012, Eminem sold over 41,166,000 albums and 42,290,000 digital singles in the US since his debut in November 1996. He is currently the only rapper among the top 10 best-selling albums artists – he is placed at #7 on the list – and he is ranked at #3 – higher than any other Hip-Hop act – on the lineup of highest-selling digital singles artists. Lil Wayne is positioned at #7 among digital track sellers with 36,788,000 downloaded singles and Kanye West is at #9 with 30,242,000.
Incredibly, Eminem is also the only Hip-Hop act with a record ranked among the top 20 top-selling albums of the SoundScan era. However, he doesn’t just have one album in the top 20; he has two!
Eminem’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ has thus far sold 10,539,730 copies in the US and ‘The Eminem Show’ has sold 10,028,990. Those diamond-certified albums are currently placed as the 14th and 18th highest-selling albums of the SoundScan era, respectively, and are the only Hip-Hop records with sales exceeding 10 million copies.

Not suprised. I love Eminem, the Marshall Mathers LP still remains one of my fav albums of his.
This is one of the few “Music Minutes” that I actually knew. I’m sure someone is going to try an down play his success, because, he’s white….but he’s still one of the greatest rappers alive.

The perks of being white.
@girrl… you know this.. that is the “only” reason he sells. His raps are alright. Tupac could rap rhymes better then him but since he has the mainstream/urbanlites behind him. He is some “King” please Dre’ signed him because he knew he could make money off of him as a lunatic/angry white boy.
I didn’t know any of this. I agree with Che_Petrillo, people will try to downplay it cuz he’s white but all in all he’s successful because his music is honest unlike a few other rappers out here.

no one is down playing anthing but I guarantee if he was black and rap the killing his wife and momma burying them. His album would not see the light of day. It would be banned and Boycott He would label “Angry and Violent Black Man”.
People that dismiss him because he’s white are so lame, if a white person said something similar about a black artist i’m sure they’d have something to say.
Eminem has done so well because he appeals to all kinds of rap fans, he does personal raps, comedy raps, thug shit… he isn’t just known for one style like Biggie or Tupac (and this isn’t about who is more tallented it’s about sales and the reasons for them).
Also arn’t most people that buy rap white anyway? so if that’s the case they probably have no issue buying a black rappers albums, a good example would be 50 Cent who until he fell off musically was selling TONS.
Em sales because he has talent. The dudes just one of the best period. He’s very versatile, and is delivery,lyrics are insane. He’s been boycotted before and that didn’t stop his album sales. He’s a global star and deserves to be.
