When Mary J. Blige’s ‘Mr. Wrong’ video debuted in December and shockingly omitted an appearance from the tune’s guest act, Drake, many people were puzzled by the occurrence. However, an alternate version of the production that included an appearance from the rapper has been released, probably in an attempt to boost the song’s performance on the charts.
Thus far, ‘Mr. Wrong’ has yet to make an impact on the Billboard Hot 100, despite peaking at #31 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. Meanwhile, Blige’s ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act I)’ album, on which the track is included, has only sold 400K copies in the US since being released on November 21st.
Watch the alternate video for ‘Mr. Wrong’ below:
Why does it look as though Drake simply stood at the back of a club’s VIP section for someone to film his segment with an iPhone and then add it to the intro Blige’s original ‘Mr. Wrong’ video? This entire fiasco regarding the handling of Blige’s ‘My Life II’ project really seems to be a case of mismanagement.
From releasing the weak first single, ’25/8′, to releasing the R&B ‘My Life II’ during the peak of the Dance/Pop movement, this era of Blige’s career has been defined by bad timing and shabby decisions. Yet, she has an incredible track record so perhaps she should end her ‘My Life II’ promotional campaign, take a break from the music scene and return with something fresh when the market is more open to accepting her brand or music.
“Why does it look as though Drake simply stood at the back of a club’s VIP section for someone to film his segment with an iPhone and then add it to the intro Blige’s original ‘Mr. Wrong’ video?” <—— ALLLLLL OF THIS THO!!!
With his Polo Shirt and Jeans!! I was like WTF is this! He looked like any hoodrat nigguh in the club standing up on the wall! SMH!
i dont care for this video either but the song has grown on me although i love why so much more
What??????? I absolutely love 25/8 why don’t ppl like it
It’s too late for this alternate version. They should’ve made time to film a video together. I love them both but this is completely unacceptable. I’m not here for this.
You know, 25/8 is not a bad song on its own but Mary has so many other songs on her album that would’ve been better first single choices. That album is so great and I really hate that many people are not being exposed to it.
Trent, she will tour and make money. She could have made the best R&B record of the last decade and still people wouldn’t have bought it in this climate.
We don’t support our music anymore. But she has had a great long lasting career and I’m sure she’s happy with the whole album, she will probably tour, if she’s not already, make millions during that tour.
Plus she seems happy these last few years unlike the sad life she had in the 90s when she was selling more records.
The album will probably go Gold and that’s a great achievement for an R&B record.
Trent, I have a question. You often insult these millionaire artists for not selling as well as they did for previous albums, so I want to know, do you buy albums?
And if you say, record companies give them to you, that really means No. See you too are part of that problem. Buying singles maybe, but not whole albums.
So before you admonish someone for not going Gold quickly enough for your taste, buy a few albums this year first, consistently. That way you aren’t a complete hypocrite.
And not Mariah Carey albums. I’m sure you have all of hers, even the flops. Flops – that’s a word you use a lot for people more talented than you it seems.
Sometimes I wonder, do you like music at all? Because all you seem to care about is Mariah and album sales of people you don’t know. There is more to music than sales.
@Jojo ummmm not to get involved but I thought I should let you know that Trent has the My Life II album and spoke about it for days on twitter. That’s the only reason I follow this site is because he keeps it real. By the way, Trent lives in Trinidad so him buying the album didn’t even contribute to the US sales. Are you new to this site??
No i’m not new to this site. I usually like Trent, and I’m not even a big Mary fan, but all he writes about is how much he hates Rihanna and album sales.
There is more to music than album sales. And I doubt he bought that album. He says he gets albums for free. He doesn’t strike me as a fan of anybody beside Mimi.
