US Charts: Adele’s ’21′ Tops 8 Million In Sales

Adele failed to match the 24-week chart dominance of Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ but she accomplished another impressive feat this week. Her ‘21′ album, which was certified 8x platinum by the RIAA at the end of February, has officially topped the 8 million sales mark in the US.

’21′ has sold north of 8.09 million copies in the US since being released just 55 weeks ago on February 22nd 2011. The album clocked a mind-blowing 23 weeks atop the Billboard 200 as the longest-running #1 album by a female artist in the history of the chart and the long-running chart-topper since Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ in 1985.

During the last 7 days, Adele’s ’21′ sold yet another 195K copies. Meanwhile, her ’19′ debut album, which was released in 2008, rested at #11 on the Billboard 200 this week with just under 28K copies sold. To date, that LP has sold over 2.05 million copies in the US.
