New Video: Mariah Carey – ‘Triumphant (Get ‘Em) (Ft. Meek Mill & Rick Ross)’

Written by Trent | Filed under Mariah Carey,Rick Ross
    Mariah Carey Triumphant TheLavaLizard

Mariah Carey stars in her new video, ‘Triumphant (Get ‘Em)’.

Mariah Carey wasted no time by releasing her new video for ‘Triumphant (Get ‘Em)’ merely weeks after the debut of the song. Co-starring Meek Mill and Rick Ross, the boxer-themed visual was directed by the divas husband, Nick Cannon, who actually inspired its lyrics.

In March 2013, Carey will release her new album. However, her fans won’t have to wait that long to see her perform ‘Triumphant’ because she will deliver the first live rendition of the tune on September 5th at 7:30pm ET on NBC and NFL Network to kickoff of the new NFL season.

    Watch Carey’s ‘Triumphant’ video below:

It’s ironic that Carey basically plays a cheerleader in this ‘Triumphant’ video because she certainly isn’t the focus of the main version of the song. In fact, that has been the primary reason for the tracks poor performance on iTunes and incredibly slow growth on radio.

There is still a chance for ‘Triumphant’ to gain momentum on Urban and Rhythmic radio during the next few months but the probability of it becoming a major hit on the Billboard Hot 100 is incredibly slim. So, what do I suggest? Carey should note the reaction of the public to this tune and try a different approach.

People want to hear Carey sing and main version of ‘Triumphant’ doesn’t showcase the voice that they demand. Really, the response of her fans to the vocals on the Dance remixes is a strong indicator of that fact and Carey would be silly to overlook that as she attempts to remain on trend with Urban music.

Hence, Carey needs to take a step back, pay attention and choose the tracks from the 120 songs she recorded for this album that will satisfy the demand of her fans. This situation is disturbingly similar to this exact period in 2004 when ‘Say Somethin’ (Ft. Snoop Dogg)’ from ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’ leaked and people slammed her for “whispering”. Hopefully, this latest backlash will lead to similar power vocal results.

      Divaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!
I actually like the video. I keep saying Nick better stay away from his wife’s career but he finally did a decent job with this video.
She looks stunning and even though this song may not reach #1 I appreciate she’s giving songs to her fans with a great message. I can’t wait what she has to offer next, she’s about to slaaaayyyy!!

Why is DJ Khalied (or however you spell his name) in every rap/urban music video? He looks dumb just standing there, serving no purpose.

You were supposed to be talking about the video, what did the rest of that have to do with anything? Y’all always write up these huge reports for anything Mariah. (Unnecessary)…. The video is really great. She looks awesome in it as well… What other urban singles do well on on the charts without radio’s assistance? Airplay= sales. Has Beyonce or any other major urban acts gone right to the top of the charts?….. without airplay no……… You don’t have to justify things by trying to write reports to seem as though you aren’t biased.

YAAAASSSSS MOTHA!!!!!!!!!!! SHE BACK!!! Vocals portrayed well on the video! What woman u know 40+ and looking sexy! Na i loved the video! Nice comeback themed vid!

It was a good video. It fit the song perfectly.

She should do a video for the throwback remix. That remix goes so hard.

I swear Mariah’s videos always seem to have her playing juvenile roles. The woman is a mother now. Why is she holding a sign and walking around the boxing ring in a two-piece? In terms of the song, it doesn’t make me want to buy the upcoming album. PLEASE bring us to good stuff, Mimi! That is all.

OMGGGGGGGGGGG she looks amazinggggggg!!!!!!!! I’m not here for the parts where she’s in a 2 piece…she should leave that for the bedroom but Nick done a good job!!

Despite the fact the song isn’t doing well commercially, it’s actually a REALLY good song. It’s a shame people form opinions based on the charts rather than the quality of the song itself. I love this song!

@theman you lambs KILL me LOL! It’s all fine and dandy when Trent is being “real” with other artists but you get mad when her does it with your fave? LOL!!!!

This is a shit video but at least she looked slim.

    12. theman says:
      August 21, 2012 at 6:45 pm

Trent can say what he chooses, but it just seems as though he over does with her because he doesn’t wanna seem biased. This video is far from shyt, and if it then so is just about every other piece of crap out. She’s in a two piece and looking damn good. Look at the ring she’s in…. More airplay equals more sales. Also, this isn’t her first single, the album ain’t even coming out, this is a single for fans haters.

      August 21, 2012 at 6:46 pm

Btw I’m a lamb & I’m glad Trent kept it REAL with this article. For those of you who think Trent is a delusional lamb, go watch his video on Mariah Carey, that’s all.

      August 21, 2012 at 6:54 pm

THIS SONG WOULD BE BETTER IF SHE WOULD HAVE ONLY HAAD MEEK MILL IN AT THE END , ROSS WASNT NEEDED…. I NEEDED MORE MARIAH AND LESS MEEK MILL & ROSS….

MILL WAS GOOD BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT END OF SONG ……

I HOPE SHE DOES ANOTHER VERSION WITH JUST HER…. MORE MARIAH PLS.

    17. Adrian says:
      August 21, 2012 at 7:04 pm

Trent is the definition of a delusional lamb and we all know it! lol. Every post, music minute, or breath he takes is Mimi related…and who cares. It’s his site! He’s the one making it painfully obvious that he is biased by flip-flopping so much.

With that being said, Mariah looks amazing in this video! That gold-dust make-up all over her body suits her well. I’m glad she is catering to the lambs this ERA! She remixed the hell out of Triumphant and giving lambs world-wide a reason to rejoice. We get to indulge in Triumphant….then the holidays come when she ALWAYS dominates…then we get to focus on the real project :) #MCMarch2012!

She is working with Randy Jackson again (“When Christmas Comes”) so this album is gonna be heaven! I just need a couple of songs reminscent of “Languishing” & “Rainbow (Interlude)” and for there to be some songs like “Outside” and “Mine Again.” Whatever else she does is for the birds! lol

She always makes great albums so I’m just awaiting that beautiful day in March when I can hear it!

      August 21, 2012 at 7:14 pm

That’s my girl! Get ‘Em MiMi…I swear girl you gon be buried half naked. Only Mariah can break out the “Honey” two piece and parade around the boxing ring look Fly!

@A, yes they clearly don’t know Trent has no problem saying that he doesn’t like something Mariah puts out. He doesn’t sugar coat things like other blogs.

    23. Ugh says:
      August 21, 2012 at 7:21 pm

Damn, her body on point. I don’t care for the song but she still have the best voice in the industry

    24. LegallySane93 says:
      August 21, 2012 at 7:29 pm

I LOVE IT! I think ppl overlook the message of the song…It’s not really about Mariah being obnoxious and selfish not sharing the spotlight. Mariah’s been in the limelight for 20+ years now, so if she chooses to share some then so be it. And she did slay with vocals at the end…how many singers then and now can sing that way?…..Not rhetorical either…

It’s called a tease…but it has a great message…and Mariah’s always been known to test the waters…No one is ever truly successful, if they’re remain doing the same typical things that’s anticipated of them…No this single may not blow up…did “It’s Like That”?

I like it…It’s not talking about just surviving…It’s about being triumphant, victorious and overcoming any obstacle in your life…Best single she’s released in years! IMO

    25. LegallySane93 says:
      August 21, 2012 at 7:31 pm

BTW…she looks GEWD for a 40 something years old…with and without makeup…She’s still got it! #GetEm

    26. Girrrl says:
      August 21, 2012 at 7:33 pm

I can’t with this. I’m still upset she’s the hook girl on her own song. The video was alright but she’s still dressing like she’s in her 20s.

      Dear Tommy Mottola,
Please get Mariah, put her back in all black and a jean jacket, and make her focus on being the lead sing on material better than this song.
      Sincerely,
      Old School Mariah Fan

Ugh…Mariah I love your music and I think your an incredible song writer, but the way you carry yourself I just cannot take. You are a 42 yr old mother of two and look at what you have on on this video…smh you do not always have to dress in tight/skinny outfits to be sexy. Someone please get this woman a stylist and if she already has one they need to be fired

    29. theman says:
      August 21, 2012 at 9:17 pm

She did not wear a skimpy outfit the entire video, did u not see her outfit in the ring.

Oh my gosh I love this woman! She cannot do any wrong in my eyes. I loved the song when it came out and I love the theme in the video as well. It fits the song perfectly. Tight dress, short dress, or half dressed, I don’t care and I will always support this woman, Love you boo!

I’m really disappointed in the video – Meek Mill is a lightweight fightin a supermiddle weight and he wins…really? THE CONCEPT WAS DUMB. This single may jump from 115 to 100 next week. This is sad. Hope ppl buy the cd

Nick Cannon did good job with production and editing,

why is this being touted as the main version of this song? the vintage remix is amazing! the video is nicely done too… but more vocals from mariah please!

The video is just as basic as this song, forget about the fact that she takes back seat, the reason why this song won’t succeed is because its very average.

Love Mariah but the video “No Bueno”… the single and the video appears as if she is a feature artist. She could have taken a different direction with this video to make the audience feel “Triumphant”. This is suppose to be her big “Return”…. Hell.. Nick could have called in a favor and use some of the people from 2012 Olympics to make a “cameo” and showcase their “triumphant”. Now that would at least generated buzz and possible help the single. And Trent… Kudos I know how difficult it was to type this up considering how much you love Mariah.

    46. Dave says:

I finally got to see the video and Mariah looks siiiiiiicccccckkkk!!!!!! You betta work bitch *RuPaul’s voice* Oh but wait…Why is Rick Ross throwing money at the ring while Meek is boxing? See…Mariah…you can’t take black folks nowhere, LOL!

    49. RJ12 says:
      August 22, 2012 at 7:02 pm

Unfortunately, Mariah has regressed into being a one-dimensional artist again. All she did was go from safe to sexy, from the little black dress to the little gold dress, from no movement to the same hair flipping had gestures. Regardless of her image, what always made her stand out was her singing and song quality. Without that, she will just fade into the background. We already have enough singers who are younger who are providing mediocrity. Step it up or be replaced by others with sub-par talent.

    50. theman says:
      August 22, 2012 at 11:19 pm

Mariah couldn’t ever be replaced by anyone period. One song is not the be all for an entire album. Some of you are just far too dramatic, and drag things on. That was a really good video. Trent is starting to be critical of every little thing she does just to seem neutral. Out of all of the newer songs that’s been released this is still miles ahead of the rest.
