Did you know that the Bayside Boys Mix of ‘Macarena’ was one of the most successful songs in the history of the Billboard Hot 100?
Originally performed by Los del Rio, ‘Macarena’ dominated the Hot 100 at the #1 slot of the chart for 14 weeks in 1996 – the second longest run at the top of ranking, behind only Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s ‘One Sweet Day’ (16 weeks), in history. The tune remained on the lineup for 60 weeks, which was the longest stay on the Hot 100 for a former #1 song until Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ (65 weeks) and LMFAO’s ‘Part Rock Anthem (Ft. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock)’ (68 weeks).
The ‘Macarena’ also held a spot in the top 10 of the Hot 100 for 23 weeks and was ranked as the fifth most successful song on the chart during the 50-year period of 1958-2008. Watch the video for the track below:
I’ll never forget some awards show, probably World Music Awards, and Michael Jackson was siting in the front row clicking his fingers and nodding his head. I was like “He likes THIS!?” I can see now that he always knew a catchy beat!
I’d be embarrassed if my uncle and granddad did a song like this!
