US Charts: Brandy Tumbles & Taylor Swift Makes History

    Brandy’s ‘Two Eleven’ album cover.

Brandy’s promotional strategy of delivering a cluster of performances during the release week of her ‘Two Eleven’ album has cost her dearly on the US charts. However, as her record slipped to the edge of the Billboard 200 top 10, Taylor Swift has taken command of the #1 slot.

‘Two Eleven’ sold a minor 22K copies at the #10 position of the Billboard 200 this week, raising its total sales figure to 87K. Brandy performed on several television shows when the album first hit stores, including ‘LIVE! With Kelly & Michael’ and ’106 & Park’, but has since disappeared from the media spotlight.

Swift, on the other hand, is enjoying the results of having an extended promotional push that spanned several months. The Country singer’s ‘Red’ album has entered the Billboard 200 with a stunning 1.21 million copies sold – 1.208 million, to be exact - for the largest sales week since Eminem’s ‘The Eminem Show’ sold 1.32 million upon entering the chart in 2002.

Already claiming the title of the year’s 3rd highest-selling album, behind only Adele’s ’21′ (4.11 million) and One Direction’s ‘Up All Night’ (1.32 million), ‘Red’ has also earned Swift another special distinction. She is now the only woman in US history to have multiple albums sell over 1 million copies in their opening weeks. Swift’s ‘Speak Now’ set sold 1.05 million when it first cracked the Billboard 200 in 2010.

One other female artist made waves on the US charts this week. Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ pierced the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 at #5, thus ranking her 5th among women with the most such hits – she has 16 – following Madonna (28), Mariah Carey (26), Janet Jackson (24) and Whitney Houston (19).

See the leading releases in the top 10 of both Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 below:

BRANDY and other artists like her need to understand that if you don’t keep pushing an album then youwill not sell. This ain’t the 90s anymore. You have to be more creative. Taylor Swift had her album on pizza boxes for christ sake! Lol.

Brandy needs to fire her family management and get a bulldog behind her. This is freaking ridiculous! People need to hear this album, yet she can’t book an award show or a late night appearance? I don’t get it. As a fan, I can only do so much. Her team sucks!

No talent artist like Taylor Swift and Rihanna have young
teenage fans/stans who buy their music just because they
like them. I but a album for the music. If the album it’
good , I will just download the songs I like. I am not going
to purchase a whole album if I only like a few songs.

I think the problem with Brandy is that her singles have not made a big enough impact on the radio and she lacks the strong fanbase that Rihanna and Taylor Swift have. And she also hasn’t promoted enough. I’ve only heard put it down on the radio once and it was an urban radio station. I’ve heard Taylor Swifts record at least 30 times. She should have pushed the album back until her music got picked up more. :/

Memoirs debuted with 160,000 copies. That´s not a flop anymore. Is what rihanna is used to do despite being at her peak. And therest of R&B acts have not surpassed 130,000 first week this year. Brandy sales are low and Memoirs were much bigger

I love Brandy, and I have been fan since her debut. I purchased this last album, and I was not impressed. I wanted a have you ever, one voice, love wouldn’t count me out, or truthfully moment. The album did not have any substinence as a whole. The only song I really liked was No Such Thing As Too Late and Scared of Beautiful. I really just think that people just don’t vibe with Brandy or connect with her. It’s a sad day. Positive that her will be off the top 10 next week.

I think Brandy needs to release a song for the females. Her fan base is mostly gay males. She needs to start targeting a new audience. Mjb, keyshia cole, and monica have successfully done this. Honestly, her quietness makes me want to scream. What is going on???
