US Charts: Rihanna Rules Both Billboard 200 & Hot 100

    Rihanna Unapologetic TheLavaLizard

The cover of Rihanna’s new album, ‘Unapologetic’.

The early sales predictions were accurate: Rihanna has scored her first #1 album on the Billboard 200 with her new set, ‘Unapologetic’. Yet, her reign didn’t end there as she also continued to rule the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Diamonds’, this achieving a truly impress feat.

‘Unapologetic’ entered the Billboard 200 at #1 this week by selling north on 238K copies. As her first chart-leader, the album also earned Rihanna her largest opening figures to date by outselling the 207K debut sum of her previous fastest-seller, ‘Loud’ of 2010.

Over on the Hot 100, Rihanna continued to lead the lineup with her twelfth #1 single, ‘Diamonds’, which first claimed the top slot last week. However, the Roc Nation superstar will need to watch her back because a glitter-wielding wild child, Ke$ha, is slowly approaching the chart summit with her own hit song, ‘Die Young’, which is now positioned at #2.

Back on the Billboard 200, another artist made her mark, although it was greeted with less media fanfare. Keyshia Cole’s ‘Woman to Woman’ pierced the top 10 of the chart at #10 by exceeding sales predictions and selling 96K copies. The LP has become her fifth consecutive top 10 album on the Billboard 200.

Finally, Christina Aguilera’s ‘Lotus’ has fallen out of the Billboard 200 top 10, following an embarrassing dip from #7 to #17. On the bright side, at least her album received a notable mention unlike Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up’, which performed so poorly that the sales have yet to be reported.

See the other leading releases in the top 10 of both Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 below:

Yaaaas Rihanna! I’m happy she’s doing well especially since Unapologetic is a good album. And congrats to Keyshia’s too for beating.the expectations. Nicki girl…

Topping both the charts at the same time? Very impressive, her first time in the U.s but she has also done it twice in the U.K.!

Either way Rihanna is just gaining more and more success!

It’s odd because Chris hasn’t gain fans in return. I guess she really gets to have her cake and eat it too.

Boo, if you followed trent’s past threads which im sure you do when it comes to Nicki you would know that her sales are based on FYE, Best buy and online since Target (her biggest retailer) and Walmart another huge retailer did not sell the re-release. Nicki “claims” it had to do with past re-releases not selling well. Some claim it has to do with the other album being still in stores. I think it is mixture of both as the last re-release from Katy sold 30k (to all retailers). Considering that she said they shipped 20-25k to stores then that it seems that between online stores and in stores she sold at least sold 70% of the in store copies with the remainder coming from online. I honestly was surprised she sold that. I thought she would barely clear 20k giving the limitation. I’m sure her label will continue to ship out more now that they see alot of the copies were purchased in demand.

So proud of Rihanna. Now the haters including well…will need to find something else to drag her about. The whole no #1 album thing was so tired anyway. Plenty successful albums don’t go to #1. Shania twains come on over went 20x platinum and peaked at #2. Many #1 albums don’t even get past gold or platinum sometimes. Think Madonna’s MDNA.

welp for nicki tho. btwn the mariah fued, and her unpleasant attitude on twitter and interviews.. all tht bad press aint help. and also people are over this pink friday era as a whole tbh, she needs to put it to an end and stop reloading and re-uping, that cow has been milked dry….
hopefully she can gain back respect and what not when idol airs..

Keyshia Cole didn´t do bad then. We could say she sold 100,000. Almost the same she did two years ago. Not bad at all
I still laugh hard at Rihanna fans saying “she is now iconic then”
Why? Cos she sold more than 200,000 copies in a week for once in her career? LMAO
I have to say these are being the poorest pre Xmas season ever. In the last part of November and no album doing over 300,000??? I don´t that´s ever happened. There´s always a big Xmas album or a big non Xmas album selling huge during this time of the year (I know Taylor is the sad exception)
