Did you know that Mariah Carey’s original version of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ is the only Holiday-themed single to sell over 2 million downloads in the US?
As of December 11th 2011, Carey’s ‘All I Want’ sold over 2 million digital copies in the US and became the first song of its kind to achieve this feat. In fact, the tune is also the only Holiday song in US history to sell more than 1 million downloads.
The second and third highest-selling digital sellers among the Holiday songs are Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s ‘Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)’ and The Chipmunks’ ‘The Chipmunk Song’, which sold 864K and 841K downloads, respectively. Of course, even the various high profile covers of ‘All I Want’ have not been able to compete with Carey’s original.
Since being released in 1994, ‘All I Want’ – a song that was written and produced by Carey – has been covered by several artists including Shania Twain, Michael Buble, Leona Lewis and Miley Cyrus. Earlier this year, Justin Bieber also record his own version of the record in a duet with Carey and it has thus far only sold 92,586 downloads.
