Did you know that Angie Stone was once a member of one of the first female Hip-Hop groups?
Stone, then known as Angie B, lead the Hip-Hop trio The Sequence in the early 1980s. The group comprised also members Cheryl Cook (Cheryl the Pearl) and Gwendolyn Chisolm (Blondie), and was regarded as the female answer to The Sugarhill Gang and the first Hip-Hop all girl group.
The Sequence released only three studio albums as a group from 1980 to 1983 and were best known for their biggest hit, ‘Funk You Up’. Listen to that song below:
