During the final years of Whitney Houston’s life, the only aspect of her story that garnered almost as much media attention as her drug use was her dilapidated voice. Now, with the debut of her ‘I Will Always Love You – The Best of Whitney Houston’ compilation on the horizon, her fans are reminded of that via a new song called ‘Never Give Up’.
‘The Best of Whitney Houston’ will arrive in stores on November 13th. ‘Never Give Up’ was produced by Mariah Carey’s longtime partner in music, Jermain Dupri, hence the track’s unsurprising similarity to their song ’100%’. Listen to ‘Never Give Up’ below:
Despite singing a few impressive notes in ‘Never Give Up’, it’s impossible to deny the drastic change in Houston’s tone. Honestly, she sounds like a completely different person on the song, which is ironically the best vocal performance we have heard from her in years.
Yet, there is no point in critiquing ‘Never Give Up’. Houston has passed, and nothing we say will change the fact that her voice was tattered and torn toward at the end of her life. At least we know she tried to make some improvements before it was too late.
