When people name of West indian entertainers, Barbados’ Rihanna and Jamaica’s Bob Marley are usually the first to be listed. However, Trinidad & Tobago’s own Heather Headley is probably one of the most talented artists to emerge from the region and she confirmed that today at the 2012 Royal Variety Performance.
Headley is currently playing the lead role in the musical adaptation of ‘The Bodyguard’ at the Adelphi Theatre in London so it was quite fitting that she performed the standout song from the show that was made famous by the late Whitney Houston - ‘I Will Always Love You’. Watch her stun the world with her astonishing voice at the Royal Variety Performance below:
This performance was amazing! Obviously, there probably will never be another singer who will perform ‘I Will Always Love You’ on Houston’s level but Headley did the song justice. She didn’t lumber through the music Jennifer Hudson and she delivered far more power than the otherwise pitch-perfect Leona Lewis. Simply, Headley was amazing and I am so proud to be a Trinidadian!
