Did you know that Missy Elliott’s ‘Work It’ holds the record for the longest-running #2 song on the Billboard Hot 100 without ever reaching the top spot?
Co-produced by Timbaland, ‘Work It’ remained at #2 on the Hot 100 for ten weeks yet never climbed to #1. The tune shares this awkward record with Foreigner’s ’Waiting for a Girl Like You’, which also stayed in the runner-up slot for ten weeks.
Still, ‘Work It’ earned Elliott the distinction of highest-charting single on the Hot by a female Hip-Hop act without the assistance of a featured performer. Only Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ has come close to matching this feat at #3.
