Mariah Carey may appear to be an all encompassing diva but beneath the glitz and the glamour, she is real person. Indeed, during her tribute at the 2012 BET Honors ceremony where she was celebrated by her peers and her family, the legend allowed the world to see who she really is as she erupted into tears.
Greeted with a standing ovation by the audience that included US Frist Lady Michelle Obama, Carey was presented with the Entertainer Award from her husband, Nick Cannon and son. Moroccan. Of course, her diva daughter, Monroe, remained backstage as she refused to join her twin brother at the mic.
Carey recently discussed the importance of the BET Honors during a candid interview. She indicated that she is inspired more than ever to create music and express herself as a songwriter and vocalist.
Watch the footage of Carey’s emotional moment below:
The question is was Mariah Carey weeping because of the honor of this award, or was Kelly Rowland’s tribute that bad ? Ponder that one. Regardless, Mariah Carey deserves to be honored. She’s wonderful.
I hope they last forever. That was so touching.
Such a sweet diva!
Yesssssssa Miss Monroe being a bitch and refusing to be on stage with her parents and little brother, lol!!!!
Can’t wait to see this on TV!!
Woo, can’t wait to see this in full…
@Camm Alexander
Reports from people who were there have praised Kelly for a good performance, and Mariah herself tweeted Kelly to say she was great. So… No pondering here.
This is so sweet
Nick was trying not to cry lol; you can hear it his voice.
Aww I really like Mariah. She worked hard for her success and had real talent. She deserves all the accolades and more!
Such a touching moment. I can’t wait to see the show.
But on another note, Trent, there is a very shady typo that needs to be fixed: you wrote Nicki instead of Nick.

aww. i will admit that i doubted their marriage at first but over the years it seems as though they have the real thing. the last few decades Mariah has worked so hard, had good times and bad times but she has proved herself in music and she deserved this honor. People (mainly stans of female pop stars today) like to say that Mariah is old and she isn’t relevant. but she has nothing left to prove to anyone. she’s a damn good singer/songwriter and has notable influence so congrats to her.
sidebar: Monroe said bitch please, you’re not worthy of my presence lol.
I don’t see many stans saying that she’s irrelevant because that would be an exaggerated lie. If they are it’s only out of envy. She’s classic and one of a kind.
