Thus far, Caribbean Heat has focused on some of the leading Soca acts from Trinidad & Tobago but now it is time for us to venture to another country in the West Indies. Often heralded as the Queen of Bajan Soca music, Alison Hinds has been a driving force of Caribbean movement in the Barbados music scene as well as the global frontier.
Hinds started her recording career in 1987 as a member of the popular band Square One. As the group’s lead singer, Hinds gained notoriety thanks to monster hits such as ‘DJ Ride’, ‘Ragamuffin’ and the international sensation ‘Faluma’.
In 2005, Hinds pursued her solo career and released her biggest hit to date, ‘Roll it Gal’, which dominated the airwaves throughout the Caribbean region throughout that year. Listen to that song and view some of most memorable music videos below:
‘DJ Ride (with Square One)’
‘Roll It Gal’
‘Thundah’
‘Top Class Bubbler (with Square One)’
‘Ragamuffin’
‘Faluma (with Square One)’
What Hinds really represents is longevity. She has had a consistently successful career in the music industry for over 25 years and the 42-year old has shown absolutely no sign of slowing down.
Furthermore, Hinds is a brilliant live entertainer and a crucial figure in the male-dominated music scene. Cleverly disguised as a party tune, ‘Roll It’ became feminist anthem for many women to reaffirm their self-worth. Plus, let’s not forget that music is fantastic as well!

Bajan massive in the place
Roll it gal is the jam. Top Class Bubbler reminds me of the Thong Song in certain parts. DJ Ride, Thundah, and Ragamuffin are cute songs.
You can’t tell me that Faluma is the best song ever. I have no clue what it’s about but I love it.
