What do you do when your album sales are lower than expected? Well, if you’re Nicki Minaj, you push out half a dozen videos and perform on every stage that will have you. That is exactly what the rapper did today when she issued the visual for ‘I Am Your Leader’, which features Rick Ross and Cam’ron.
After 20 weeks of availability, Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’ album has only sold 627K copies in the US. On the bright side, her current Pop single, ‘Pound the Alarm’, climbed to #22 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. Will the Urban-targeted ‘I Am Your Leader’ video perform any better? Basically, Minaj made a cheap, uninspired and silly video for one of the strongest tracks on ‘Roman Reloaded’, ‘I Am Your Leader’. Where was the budget for this clip? Was it all spent on covering Ross’ massive body with baby oil and purchasing a few new wigs for Minaj? What a complete buzz kill.

I’m not a huge Nicki fan….but this obsession over album sales is really idiotic. Most album sales have been lackluster…and the only one who’s still hit colossal numbers is Adele.
Pink Friday went double platinum. It makes perfect sense to bring up album sales, because Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded has sold less than half of that. Plus, Pink Friday didn’t have a strong lead single, and Roman Reloaded came out with Starships in the top 10.

@unbothered that may be well and dandy…but still, my larger point, is that this hoopla about album sales is ridiculous. Rihanna WFL was her longest top charting single if I’m not mistaken, and she has yet to score a number one album, and reach 1 mill sales…does that make her a flop?
The song is ite…it might grow on me I think. The video looks tacky. The black, curly wig that she wears in her solo shots looks a mess. Yet again we see Nicki play a game of ‘how many ass shots can I sneak into the video’. Beyonce has a big ass too but she doesn’t feel the need to remind us in all her videos (& this is coming from someone who’s not a big Bey fan).

@Noel considering Talk That Talk has the biggest single of Rihanna’s career, and has yet to reach a million in sales in the US, yes, her album would be considered flopping. Is she a flop as whole? No. Is her album a flop? Yes.

The 1st half of this video is rather dope me thinks. Goods sets and Quirky camera works that reminds me of Hype Williams in in prime, the novelty of the camera work wears off by cameron’s verse though.
The only people Nicki’s leading” are her fans. She has them believing she created this “image” she is rocking. How you going to say “I hate phony Bitches…” umm Onika, what does copying someone’s image/style make you? This video kicks some serious ass and if anyone doesn’t like it they can go… suck a big dick! Nicki Minaj is an animated rapper, the colors and cartoon style works great for her.
I wouldn’t say that she’s flopping, you can’t compare an album that was out for a longer space to this one. Of course “PF” was doing well because it had all of that hype and was less pop driven.

The inspiration was obviously the movie Beetlejuice. I like the video. Like someone else said, I don’t understand why everyone is obsessed with numbers and sales all of a sudden. You’re the only buzz kill right now Trent.

@Unbothered Talk That Talk is far from being considered a flop album Only YOU consider it a flop. Its not far off from reacing that 1 million mark and its sold pretty well enough to not be considered a flop from music critics & the media.
