Mariah Carey Delivers Less Than ‘Triumphant’ NFL Performance

Mariah Carey kicks off the 2012 NFL season.
We all know what Mariah Carey can do with her voice but clearly she hasn’t gotten the memo because she has a strange tendency to drop the ball when it matters most. Earlier this evening, the glittery diva performed ‘Triumphant (Get ‘Em)’ at the kickoff of the 2012 NFL season and looked far better than she sounded.
Joined by rappers Meek Mill and Rick Ross, Carey sang the main version of ‘Triumphant’ and appeared somewhat lost among all the action as she tried to replicate the knotty studio vocal arrangement at the show. Watch her sing the tune below at the NFL concert to see what I mean:
Why did Carey insist on singing the original version of ‘Triumphant’ when it was blatantly obvious that the airy vocal layering and transitions would be almost impossible to handle live? There were a few good moments in this showing but it was clear that the constant switching from full voice to breathy cooing left Carey almost out of breath.
Carey should have adjusted ‘Triumphant’ to suit a live setting by performing it entirely in full voice or simply opted to do one the of Dance remixes, which would have given her more room to flex her vocals. Honestly, this performance made absolutely no sense. Pleas read what I wrote and do better next time, Carey.

I don’t understand how Mimi lost her voice or most of it to the point where you forgot she had a 5 octave vocal range. She never tours/toured or sings live that much so HTF?
Regardless of Mariah Carey’s Triumphant flop & her major vocal declined, she’ll always be 1 of the best vocalists & selling artists ever!!!!! This performance Mariah just gave was decent by HER standards but still shits on any Rihanna, Katy live vocal performance but pull it together Mimi.

Mariah has an incredible voice, but she’s worth 250 million so she does NOT have to work hard at this anymore, she’s made her mark. Mariah & Whitney are the legends, right now, mariah is just floating along having fun……She should have sang the PULSE mix and turned it out, but she didn’t. WTF!!! I was looking forward to this so much. Don’t understand why she didn’t perform ANY of the dance remixes. I have faith that you will get it together Mariah. All of the live performances this year have been on point & the vocal arrangments have been nice. This gives me faith for the record in 2013!!! Come and slay Mariah! I give you a pass on this one.

I love it when stans have to make excuses, now triumphant is a difficult song to sing live??? Get out of here, she sounds like this every time she sings live the few times she does, except maybe one show she did where it was nice the rest have been a mess for years.
The way this song is arranged is different. She should have changed the arrangement. She did look awkward, because of that. She had her good moments in the song. But she needs to let go onstage. She needs to change her gold attire as well. She should move around more to. She was sounding great in her concerts.

the end of the song. She sounded real bad.
I watched the performance and didn’t find the vocals to be that bad. My main criticism would be about the song itself. It’s not a really good song, and the 2 or 3 dance mixes that have been released are all better than the original version that she performed here. Also, Mariah Carey almost seems to be a guest performer on her own single. I think the 2 rappers and all the overpowering background vocals are more prominent on the song than Mariah Carey’s vocals. Did she even sing any verses, because it just sounded like her singing a chorus over and over. As far as her voice sounding terrible, I’d have to disagree. I think the problem was with the song and the arrangement, but not with her voice. She is still one of the greatest voices in the music business.
She has performed very well at her recent concerts. It’s the same person trying to find fault in everything because……. Juest keep it moving. You are in every Mariah thread there is. You are even on other sites stalking her post. If you prefer other artists doesn’t it make more sense to go and post about them? Or are u simply obsessed?……..
Ok so let me break it down for yall hoes real quick… Mariah can’t sing no more she really lost her voice completely like that shit is gone and never returning, yes she USE to be one of the greatest singers but not anymore this performance was a mess like a low down dirty mess, and this song is soooo corny give it up MC and if she did perform well in her recent concerts im willing to bet they were all lipped #thatisall
@Elijah well u would be beting very wrong because she was indeed doing very well in her other performanes. Her voice in parts of this performance were good, although this was an awkward and busy performance. When she did sing she was good, but it was alot going on. She hasn’t lost her voice, thats tired….

I’m telling yall…Mariah has more vocal issues that just the typical “age” excuse. She has some serious case of dysphonia. She has no fluidity in the voice and you can tell by the way she was speaking in that strained voice at the end that something is seriously up. How is that one of the most iconic voices is in such shambles??

Never heard so much strain in such a EASY song to sing, you might have a legacy but they say you remembered as your last hit and performance and her last single which was her official 1st single until it did not even chart became a ‘buzz’ if she has nothing to prove why is she still making music! She has shit to prove she is making music so that she can make more hits and because she wants to! Lambs need to stop making excuses… She’s not even a ‘performer’ dancer or stage mover for her to sing like this.. She once had a great 5 octave voice, she used to have a great voice and this performance which is her last show in what condition it is, not past performances… This is the present and her voice is the past but she needs to get it together! Because she can’t sing really and always looks like she struggles to sing a simple line in a song, she can still whistle though but that’s it..

After watching Mariah perform ‘Triumphant’ LIVE and being there…I have a whole new respect for the song. In my opinion, after watching it on here clearly the song did NOT translate well on people’s television screens but having been RIGHT there, I will say she did AMAZING and sang 100% live.

As a lamb, I’m very disappointed in this…but it’s funny how when all the other amazing performances Mariah did this year were posted on blogs, Rih stans hardly had anything to say but the one terrible performance she does and now they’re writing her off.
Every singer will have bad performances. I’ve seen all the greats have bad performances but people go harder on Mariah for having bad performances cos they want her to leave the music scene to give their faves a chance of snatching her crown. It’s pathetic really.
It’s also real funny how Benron NEVER has anything good to say about Mariah yet he was quick to read this post. If you don’t like her, why do you go out of your way to read stuff about her? I don’t get it.
Anyway, I’m not gonna defend this performance. It didn’t sound good but for all the Rihanna stans getting on Mimi’s dick for this, remember Rihanna’s BEST vocal performance is still worse than this.
Is everyone getting amnesia from her shows in Monaco? Her voice was on FIRE then. She obviously had a bad vocal day and the song sucks to begin with.
Mariah overused her voice in the 90′s and she’s paid the price for it. Overall though, she’s maintained what she does have. She just wasn’t ‘on it’ for last night’s performance.
