Mary J. Blige didn’t quite deliver the stellar cover of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ that many had hoped to hear at the 2012 iHeartRadio Music Festival. So, Prince selected another soulful singer with a smoother set of pipes to handle the song at his ‘Welcome 2 Tour’ in Chicago – Jennifer Hudson.
Easily belting each note and soaring through the octaves without strain, Hudson proved that she has one of the best voices in music today. Yes, she clearly lacks an understanding of music and she even recycled several vocal runs from previous shows – her 2011 Grammy Awards tribute to Aretha Franklin and her cover of ‘I Will Always Love You’ – but she definitely did much better with ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ than Blige.

“Smoother set of pipes” hm… Mary’s voice never been perfect, she’s never been a vocalist and she has always been off key at some point of her performances since What’s the 411. MJB is still one of the best on this earth. She’s has SOUL for days, no perfection is needed when you have such passion.
That was awesome! Love Jennifer Hudson!
I think they both sounded a mess… Jennifer and Mary! Never thought I’d hear myself say this, but he shouldv’e called Beyonce!!! Not once, But twice!!! BOL
all i hear is screaming very very loud SCREAMING
…..cause it was done by an amateur cell phone
This was wack….I’m not a big fan of Jennifer. She’sa screamer. And not a soulful one at that (like Fantasia).
There you go with your blige hating again
