US Charts: Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ Creeps Closer To Hot 100 Top Spot

The single cover of Rihanna’s new song, ‘Diamonds’.

Rihanna has yet to release a video for ‘Diamonds’ or even perform the song live yet the track continues to surge upward on the US charts. In fact, after a long neck and neck battle with Ke$ha’s ‘Die Young’, ‘Diamonds’ surpassed the competition as it continued to inch closer to the top slot of the Billboard Hot 100.

‘Diamonds’ rose from #5 to #4 on the Hot 100 this week. The song garnered over 85 million audience impressions (up 15%), 807K online streams (up 18%) and 121K digital downloads. Those figures were greater than the 71 million audience impressions and 781K streams of Ke$ha’s ‘Die Young’, despite the latter track moving 139K downloads during the last frame.

If ‘Diamonds’ tops the Hot 100, it will become Rihanna’s 12th #1 song on the lineup, thus ranking her higher than Whitney Houston, who has 11 such hits, among artists with the most chart-leaders in history. Additionally, Rihanna will match both Madonna and The Supremes, who care currently tied in 2nd place among women with the most #1 songs. Mariah Carey has the most ruling hits of any solo artist with 18.

Expect ‘Diamonds’ to climb even higher on the Hot 100 after its corresponding video is released on November 8th and Rihanna performs the song on ‘Saturday Night Live’ on November 10th. See the other leading releases in the top 10 of both Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 below:

The fact that she’s ranking among actual legends is pitiful.

Doesn’t sound pressed to see MJ, Mariah, Whitney, Madonna and then Rihanna in the same league and question it.

I love Rihanna but I agree. But billboard charts have changed drastically over the years. It is a lot easier to hit #1 and stay #1 nowadays.
