When people name of West indian entertainers, Barbados’ Rihanna and Jamaica’s Bob Marley are usually the first to be listed. However, Trinidad & Tobago’s own Heather Headley is probably one of the most talented artists to emerge from the region and she confirmed that today at the 2012 Royal Variety Performance.
Headley is currently playing the lead role in the musical adaptation of ‘The Bodyguard’ at the Adelphi Theatre in London so it was quite fitting that she performed the standout song from the show that was made famous by the late Whitney Houston - ‘I Will Always Love You’. Watch her stun the world with her astonishing voice at the Royal Variety Performance below:
This performance was amazing! Obviously, there probably will never be another singer who will perform ‘I Will Always Love You’ on Houston’s level but Headley did the song justice. She didn’t lumber through the music Jennifer Hudson and she delivered far more power than the otherwise pitch-perfect Leona Lewis. Simply, Headley was amazing and I am so proud to be a Trinidadian!

Yes Ms. Headley!!!!!!
Amazing!!! I was watching it on TV here in the UK, it gave me goosebumps! Whitney would have been proud of this performance :’)
FANTASTIC! Technically perfect! She had the vibrato and crescendos on point!
Naa help me up! My back did several turns
wow i was bout to be in tears she did that
I love how the inflections she added throughout never took away from the melody and actually complimented the song, it speaks a lot towards her musicality. Her tone was quite unpleasant to me in certain areas, but this has to be one of the best covers ive heard of this song since Whitney’s.

Amazing, but it also shows how special and unique Whitney was. She was and is truly the vocal standard
I don’t know if I’m a fan of her tone, but other than that that was quite good. Definitely did the song justice.
I think she was ok. This song requires chest power and smoother transitions between notes. This is a musical rendition of a classic. The best rendition is Charice by far. Listen to her sing the Bodyguard Medley and then you will see a difference. The way Whitney would’ve sang it. Just my opinion…a lover of voices
You lost me with that Charice sh*t…
Then u must know sh*t about singing!
Heather was too nasally for me but her belts were pretty powerful!! But no one covers whitney as well as Glennis Grace.
Ok… sorry but no. She may have vocal talent, but nothing on the likes of Whitney, her voice is not pretty enough. And nasal is definitely the word
yea I love heather and her song in my mind is my stuff, but I dont like her voice for it. I think tamyra gray still has the best I will always love you, her version gives me chills still.
… Trent this was not better than Leona’s rendition -.-
She was amazing BUT DONT GO THERE
always been a big fan of Heather
This was good, but not amazing. Too nasally and you can tell she has difficulty with closed “O” vowels.
TOO MUCH SNOT, not enough CHEST. I’ve never been able to get into her. Her tone and sound is unbearable:(
