After scoring his first international hit with ‘Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)’, Lloyd has taken a completely different approach with his followup release, ‘Be the One’. The crooner was joined by Trey Songz and Young Jeezy for the steamy clip, which was directed by Parris.
‘Dedication’ debuted at #3 on the Official UK Singles Chart earlier this month. The tune, which featured a verse from Andre 3000, maintained a position in the top five of the tally last week.
Watch the ‘Be the One’ video below:
It’s odd that Lloyd reverted to a more niche sound for his new single. Clearly, he forged a connection with a broader audience thanks to the Pop sound of ‘Dedication’ yet he chose the racy ‘Be the One’ as his followup? Isn’t that a step backward?
Really, Lloyd would be wise to continue promoting ‘Dedication’ and let ‘Be the One’ go viral on the Urban outlets. These starkly different releases would only confuse the new mainstream audience that he is slowly building.

I love the fact that Lloyd is still promoting his album although its struggling sales wise. It appears that Lloyd is releasing an urban and a pop single at the same time to garner fans from both audiences. I’m just waiting on a video for naked and/or jigsaw. I really hope this album goes at least gold. Lloyd deserves it.
Lloyd thinks all those tattoos and hired models gonna increase his masculinity … then he opens his mouth.
I like the beat. This would have worked better as a feature to a Jeezy song.
Dedication is doing nothing for his US Urban fan base which made him. This song is.
But this video has no chance of being played on BET though if that is his goal lol.
I like this song. I hope he continues with the ‘Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)’ sound because here in the UK they are playing it like mad. Plus, he needs to come over here and promote it.
