Despite her obvious talent, Nicki Minaj’s antics have made her a regular target for mockery in the Hip-Hop community. Yet, the rapper has done little to improve the situation with her new song, ‘The Boys’, which features the one and only, incredibly untalented Cassie.
‘The Boys’ is the lead single from Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up’ album due in November. Minaj has confirmed that the reissued version of her slow-selling ‘Roman Reloaded’ album will entail as few as five new songs and as many as eight.
Is ‘The Boys’ a worthy addition to ‘Roman Reloaded’? Listen to the song below and make that decision for yourself:
‘The Boys’ is actually a solid record with a catchy melody and a bouncy beat geared toward radio airplay success. Yes, Minaj is simply rapping about her regular topics – her riches and why is better than her competition – but there is no denying that this track is a hit.
The only things that could improve ‘The Boys’ are less “singing” by Minaj and the omission of Cassie. Be clear: Cassie doesn’t sound on the track but any one of the half-naked girls in Diddy’s office could have performed that hook so why didn’t Minaj just do that part herself? Really, with the amount of vocal production they used, we could hardly tell the difference between them anyway.
