Adele took home her first Oscar for Best Original Song at the 2013 Academy Awards just moments ago but the fun for the diva didn’t stop there. Shortly before she took home the gold, she had the honor of performing her winning tune, “Skyfall”, live during the ceremony as part of a lineup that included several other stage icons.
In addition to Adele’s cool rendition of “Skyfall”, the top James Bond 2007 songbird, Dame Shirley Bassey, wowed the crowd with a powerhouse rendition of the classic tune “Goldfinger”. At the ripe age of 76 years, Dame Bassey sounded as good as she decades ago, proving that she truly has the one of the greatest voices of our time.
However, all was not well at the Academy Awards because Jennifer Hudson made it a point to yell her way through “And I Am Telling You”. Did she confuse the lyrics and stray off-key as she does almost every time she sings the song? Of course she did and that’s why my ears are still ringing at 1am.
We can’t overlook the mother of all divas, Barbra Streisand, though, because she managed to soothe my aching eardrums with a calm rendition of “The Way We Were”. Watch the leading ladies perform at the Academy Awards below:
Adele – “Skyfall”
Barbra Streisand – “The Way We Were”
Catherine Zeta Jones & Jennifer Hudson – Medley
Shirley Bassey – “Goldfinger”
