Way Back Wednesday: Xscape – ‘Hold On’ (En Vogue Cover)

Written by Trent | Filed under En Vogue,Way Back Wednesday

Way Back Wednesday takes us back to the era of girl groups this week. Originally a collection of five singers, Xscape burst onto the scene in the early 1990s on BET’s Teen Summit with their rendition of En Vogue’s mega hit ‘Hold On’.

This is exactly what R&B is missing today – a girl group! The energy, the harmonies and the mix of the styles with which different people can identify are all an integral part of the music scene.

Many took for granted the impact that singing groups had on the industry because there were so many present throughout the 90s but it is obvious today they broke the monotony that would have otherwise been the redundant scene that we are seeing today. En Vogue, Xscape, TLC and Destiny’s Child all delivered in their time and now we desperately need a new collective.

In a world of blonde bobs and down to the booty extensions, it’s good to see some au naturale black hairstyles! …and Tiny’s eyebrows.

But, I’m really surprised to see these girls could SANG at this young age! WOW! They need to get back together! Why did they break up again??

they broke up because kandi wanted more control of the group and she wanted to be the lead singer. after her and jd stop fucking everything went down hill. I will admit some of the material kandi have written is good but jd thing was if its not broken, why try to fix it. I totally understood she wanted to write some material for Xscape but in my opinion, she couldve handled it differently. And clearly you all can tell Latocha sang the best in the group. I didnt like all the riffs she did but she still is the best singer and then it’s her sister Tameka,Kandi and lastly Tiny
