After enduring grueling competition during MTV’s hit series ‘Making the Band’, five young women were put together to form one of the most exciting new acts of the last decade – Danity Kane. However, despite making history as the first girl group to have their first two albums debut at #1 on the Billboard 200, the band fell apart in 2009 after only four years.
Hence, as we look back at the most prominent moments in the history of the group and imagine what they could have been given their enormous potential, The Lava Lizard presents a special Way Back Wednesday chronicling The Rise & Fall of Danity Kane. Watch the drama unfold below:
After two years, the real reason for the end of Danity Kane has yet to be revealed. Whether it was because of different members of the group were pursuing their own personal goals or because of Diddy’s blatant inability to manage his artists, the mystery of this tragedy has yet to be unwoven.
Still, the fact that Dawn was regularly given preferential treatment during her time in Danity Kane and was often asked to perform with Diddy at his shows without her fellow group members did cause concern. Also, following the group’s disbandment, she was quickly signed to his Diddy-Dirty Money venture whereas her former bandmates were unceremoniously asked to leave.
Nonetheless, the end of Danity Kane was truly a catastrophe. With their talent and unique blend of personalities, these girls had the potential to emerge as one of the leading girl groups in the industry and the possible US answer to the Spice Girls – the top-selling girl group of all time. We continue to mourn this loss.
They were no where close to being the US answer to the Spice Girls, that was DC.
Agreed. DC was THE closest thing. DK was great but couldn’t produce anything compared to products like DC’s ‘Destiny Fulfilled’
I really miss dem, so much potential though
so much potential indeed. i hope Dawn releases an album. she was my favorite out of all them. she’s still signed under Diddy’s label & we all know Diddy only cares about himself. *Here’s To Hope*
*le sigh* I miss them
The main problem was Diddy , he’s poison , nobody is able to name ONE artist that he was involved with , that’s still around today !
I still listen to both their albums. Its such a shame
So basically this was a “Dawn was the reason” post.
IT HAS BEEN YEARS! Y R WE STILL ON THIS? Diddy kicked ALL of them (including Dawn) to the curb so its all come full circle, its all about Aubrey now so we can let that group die.
I hate when people always try to blame Dawn for the group breaking up. We will never know the real reason behind the break up so lets just let it go, but I wish them all the best and hopefully one day they’ll be able to get back together!
I believe Diddy wanted D. Woods and Dawn to be in Dirty Money (going based on the episodes were the group was disbanded). I do believe there was jealousy (Aubrey being jealous of Dawn) and the other girls were forced to pick a side. I do miss them, and I do believe they would have been the US answer to the Spice Girls. DC was great, but, lets be real…they didn’t cross over like DK and DK like the Spice Girls had a girl everyone could relate to. DC was four black girls, where as DK were diverse, none of them looked alike and they all had different personalities (like the Spice Girls).
I too miss DK.
Sorry but Danity Kane wasn’t going to be the answer to the Spice Girls. They were only a local act (meaning popular in the US alone) and their success was limited. The Pussycat Dolls were bigger than them…sold more albums and singles, had more hits, were popular both Stateside and outside the States, and their tours they did outside the States did great.
