The music industry lost one of its most iconic figures today when it was announced that Etta James had passed. After battle leukemia since 2010, the Rock & Roll legend also know as Miss Peaches passed at a hospital Riversdale, California.
James, who also suffered from dementia and hepatitis C, died earlier today after a long battle with leukemia at the age of 73 years. Her manager, Lupe De Leon, broke the news to CNN about her passing.
Known for her incredibly powerful and gritty voice, James put forward several R&B classics, such as ‘At Last’ and ‘Something’s Got a Hold On Me’. She won six Grammy Awards throughout her lifetime and was even inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
Acts who have credited James as a major influence on their sound include Diana Ross, Adele, Amy Winehouse and Beyonce, the last of which portrayed her in the movie ‘Cadillac Records’. Christina Aguilera also listed James as an inspiration and covered several of her songs while on tour.
Watch the legendary James perform ‘Something’s Got a Hold On Me’ below as we celebrate the life of the one and only Miss Peaches:
Aww ;( rip
Rest in Peace.
RIP Ms James. She been through a lot in her lifetime.
Rihanna should pay tribute to her at the grammy’s and hopefully then etta can score a no.1 on the hot 100. The next old person that will die will be Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Beyonce, Patti Labelle and Mariah.

Rihbaby you sound mental. Why would you say something so idiotic. You are really of your rocker.

Anyway, I hope if they do pay tribute to her it’s a respectable tribute, with people who were fans AND that can sing.
Rihbaby shut the fuck up. Why would you say something like that? Anyways…Etta was in the forefront for women in Rhythm and Blues and she’ll be greatly missed.
RIP Etta :/ she was such an amazing singer and went through so much struggle in her life… Hopefully she’s at peace now, her music and influence will live on for ever
I wish Xtina was performing a tribute at the Grammys, she seems like the one who idolised her most and she’s also the one who does the best Etta covers, even Etta said so.
