Did you know that MC Hammer’s ‘Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em’ album spent more weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 than any other Hip-Hop album in history?
As MC Hammer’s only chart-topping album in the US, ‘Please Hammer’ logged 21 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200. In fact, the diamond-certified LP, which was released in 1990, is currently ranked in 8th place among the longest-running #1 albums in US history and even spent more weeks at the summit than Whitney Houston’s ‘The Bodyguard’ soundtrack. The latter held the #1 slot for 20 weeks.
‘Please Hammer’ produced 3 top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including ‘U Can’t Touch This’, ‘Have You Seen Her’ and ‘Pray’. Yet, despite being the lowest-charter of the 3 songs after peaking at #8, ‘U Can’t Touch This’ was MC Hammer’s biggest hit internationally and climbed to #3 on the Official UK Singles Chart.

yes, and people always make fun of hammer like they weren’t jamming to ‘can’t touch this’
MC Hammer opened the door for people like Jay-Z and Puffy to take advantage of branding in America. He was amazing during his peak, giving MJ a run for his money.
And even when he went bankrupt, NOT BROKE, but bankrupt, he was richer than most Americans. He said that on Oprah. I don’t know why people assume bankruptcy equals “broke-ruptcy.” In most cases, your able to keep your assets or pay them down at a discount. Meaning that you can still have your wealth. People can be so dumb!
Hammer was the best! Nobody had his energy! He rapped like a preacher! Dance like a super-entertainer! Haters can sit!
@popculturemajor, I know right. “Can’t touch this” was and still is a great song.
Hammer actually had many decent songs.
