Exactly 10 years after her tragic death, BET has announced that Aaliyah will be honored with a special tribute. The singer, who was killed in a tragic plane crash in August 2001, will be given a special dedication by the network next month.
BET issued the news today that the Aaliyah will indeed by honored at a special event in August. While there an official date has yet to be scheduled, the show will undoubtedly include appearances from several of her close friends and family.
Who do you want to pay tribute to Aaliyah? Ciara, Beyonce, Missy Elliott or Drake?

King B & Missy thats it!!
I was just thinking about that last week, but with MTV . I would to see Beyonce, Keshia Cole do the tribute
Although shes not that big yet, I saw Keke Palmer. Keke is heavily influenced/inspired by Aaliyah. And she reminds me of her. might be an unpopular opinion, but hey….
@Sam TGJ isn’t a .com fool. Stop trying to start drama. Let everybody be great and move on
I’m happy for Aaliyah! I want to see Ciara do something.
imagine its been 10 years since her death! I remember like it was yesterday. I would really like to see Ashanti, Ciara and Janet pay tribute to Aaliyah. Ciara stole so much from Ali, Ashanti benefited from her absence and Aliyah looked up to Janet the most.
Yay!
*Sigh* Um, Aaliyah was a increasingly successful R&B artist who crooned her way into the 90s with the perfect mixture of Hip-Hop influence with a rhythmic vocal approach. Though she never had much of a voice, her album sells were increasing. Stans can argue that her personality was sweet, peachy, and laidbaid, that she sold a gazillion records after her death, that she was the “original” Princess of Hip-Hop R&B, etc. But, the truth remains, that Aaliyah never had a headling tour, and never performed live. Sure, you can find little Youtube clips of the singer doing snippets of verses here and there, but nothing that is outstanding. Aaliyah just had really great songs. I use to sweat her once she died, but as I gotten older, I realized that she is not that great like people painted this image of her. I respect the music she has left behind and acknowledge her “contributions” to the music industry with a sweet blend of Hip-Hop and R&B records. I only look back at the past so much, now it’s time to move on and let go. Holding on only brings pain. Not saying that BET is wrong for the tribute, but it’s the Aaliyah stans who’ve concocted this tribute up. Hopefully, after this, we can move forth…for the better.
CIARA!!!!!! WHO ELSE WOULD DO IT!!? STOP BEING BIAS AND BE HONEST! CIARA WOULD BE PERFECT FOR THE TRIBUTE… THEY ARE SO MUCH A LIKE AND SHE NEEDS THE PUBLICITY! ANYONE ELSE WOULD JUST LOOK CRAZY DOING IT HAHAHAHA JUST SAYING!
Please BET…dont mess this up.
Bey Missy and Drizzy
yes, im so exited I say everybody you mention, they all bring something special to the table.
I liked Aaliyah. I can’t say that I was a huge fan, but she had some great material that I grew up on. I think this tribute is a very nice way to memorialize her. She was a very sweet, talented girl.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion and all that, but to say Aaliyah didn’t have much of a voice is really reaching. She was a classically trained singer. She’s also been compared to the likes of Sade’ as far as style of singing. I have never heard of anyone saying that Sade’ can’t sing so I’m not understanding why every time Aaliyah is the topic people have to shoot her down. “I liked her music but…” is always the phrase and its always followed with an underhanded insult. Aaliyah set herself apart from the rest with her soft singing because a lot of other singers were belting out notes and being powerhouses. Aaliyah wanted to be unique and she succeeded. Furthermore, people kill me trying to pass off their opinions as facts and act like they know it all. Aaliyah DID perform live numerous times. Rosie O’Donnell, Regis and Kelly, Jay Leno, among others. She also did embark on a world tour after her first album and then she returned to school to get her high school diploma. LOL people be trying it!
And no one says anything when Biggie and Tupac get tributes and documentaries shown every year but when its Aaliyah its an issue… (-_-)
it’s about time
I actually like this idea. Not for nothing, Aaliyah was one of the most consistent performers during the 90′s even 2000 when it came to the R&B charts. People forget that she was the first artist to ever have a #1 single on the Hot 100 without releasing said single (Try Again) for sale at the time. And some people say she couldn’t sing or what not…that’s bull. She had her own style of singing and it worked wonders. She had a ton of ballads that also showcased her abilities (like I Care 4 U, The One I Gave My Heart To, and I Refuse). I would personally like to see people she either knew or were influenced by honor her material (Missy Elliot, Beyonce, Lil Kim, JoJo, Monica, Brandy, Tweet, and Ciara, Tiffany Evans on the side of influence).
Aw finally, BET definitely had to tribute her, otherwise they wouldve received some complaints, I think Aaliyah was quite successful for an R&B artist and her albums sold well, multiplatinum and that so she worked hard to get a name for herself. She was also very talented with a unique voice, and although she didn’t belt a lot she could SANG, her headvoice notes were BEAUTIFUL and erm it’s a shame she died because I’m sure she would have BLOWN up like real big but yeah R.I.P. Babygirl and can’t wait for the tribute/ Ciara should pay tribute she’s like a copy of her anyway
Definitely Missy. Ciara would be nice. What about Teyana Taylor that could be cute…
The fact that someone said Aaliyah never performed live is HILARIOUS, someone CLEARLY has never done their research, I hope BET doesn’t mess this up like they do everything else, and FYI babygirl sold records, a good amount, during her career.
Omg, the Princess, Baby Girl. :’(
Bless her. BET better not screw this up!!
Drake doesn’t need to be anywhere in the mix. I think Ciara, Bey, Missy, Lil Kim should be invited also (they were friends), Ginuwine, Timbaland, basically all of her real industry and non industry friends that they can get.
