Monica has heeded the advice of her critics by going beyond her comfort zone in this new song entitled ‘Until It’s Gone’. The record will appear on her upcoming ‘New Life’ album, which is scheduled to hit stores on November 8th.
Listen to ‘Until It’s Gone’ below:
It is so refreshing to hear Monica pushing herself and singing outside of the same 2 octave range that defined almost all of her music following ‘After the Storm’! Though her belting was a bit constricted and nasal, she definitely broke the redundancy of her previous ‘let me just sing the only 8 notes that I can handle’ formula.
However, whether this record will be a successful second single is still questionable. Monica’s material from ‘New Life’ has thus far sounded focused toward the struggling Urban format with little mainstream appeal. Hopefully, she has something else planned with a grander arrangement because it is possible for R&B music to have crossover success.

Monica is AMAZING
The songs has meaning that I can relate to. All my ex’s misses me.
me no likey ,too boring !!! *sigh* oh mariah, where art thou.
That’s exactly what she shouldn’t strive for. There are only some many Beyonces or Rihannas that are going to be accepted. R&B should concentrate on being reborn. Mainstream stole it, now let the real R&B singers take it back. There are still strong supporters of R&B imo.
@lifefromthefarside, exactly! People will still go in for solid RB. Some are tired of generic pop songs being produced for #1 singles. Love Mo and this joint is hot! Chick can sing and can’t wait for “New Life” which is coming out on Nov 29th. Yass Monica. Will def be copping her album.
lawdamercy a another ugh on the prowl. Please choose another name.
I love me some Monica put this song is boring.
First of all. Im “UGH”
and I would never call r&b boring..
so save it for the HATER above..
MONICA is the bomb. She’s always been true to herself. That’s why pop lovers can’t get into her. Cause she’s not selling sex and still in the game..
Now UGH that ..Ugh..
LOVE it. It has an old school vibe with the piano and Mo is taking more risk vocally. Also, not everyone is concerned with crossing over, but wants to stay true to what they love. Not everyone cares about mainstream acceptance. Those are your standards, not Mo’s and only she can’t define for herself what it means to be successful.
*can* only SHE can I meant
i love Monica!!! this is a very good start…don’t forget almost all other artist today are pop…this is quality r&b
YES MONICA!!!! I LOVE IT!!! TRUE R&B!!!! THATS WHAT WE NEED!!! i hope she gets a grammy nod! for anything to find you!
Love her
I do believe this is a hit! I will support this! I adore this! Its not all over the place. The slow tempo actually makes you stop and listen! It is refreshing to hear music that isn’t fast. I adore the break. I would request this on the radio all the time if this is released as a single. The loyal fan base will keep this in rotation. Great music by a great artist. Music like this is what I like to hear.
i love r&b but this i find this song boring. why do i have to be a hater?…geeze
