Following several unsuccessful attempts at making a major impact on the US charts, Shontelle has returned with a new track entitled ‘Reflection’. The song is the first single from her third studio album, which has yet to begin an official release date.
Listen to the record below:
There is thin line between simplicity and sounding basic. Unfortunately for Shontelle, however, she has faltered on the side of the latter. The production of the song should be appealing to Top 40 radio listeners who enjoy listening to Bruno Mars but Shonetelle’s voice lacks both the range and the personality to give the track the edge that it needs to guarantee chart success.
Moreover, while Shontelle’s attempts at avoiding any comparisons to her friend Rihanna are admirable, I admittedly wanted to hear her deliver a track similar to the latter’s ‘Man Down’ (which Shontelle wrote). Several US acts, such as Nicole Scherzinger, Keri Hilson and Ciara, have been capitalising on Caribbean music yet none could ever hope to match the natural sound of one of our natives.
Maybe Shontelle should return to Barbados and reconnect with her roots. She has the potential to succeed but not with her current model.

I liker personality and i think she has a nice. Shontelle needs that X factor that Rihanna has. Shontelle obviously has the better voice of the 2 but she’s lacking in other departments. I don’t think should go back to Barbados. I think she should stay in the states and follow her dreams she has potential. T-Shirt & Impossible were good songs. Helpless is a good reggae song (don’t know if was ever released). She just needs to chose the right songs.

That was awful. My sister would love this though, she’s a fan.
