Nicole Scherzinger temporarily left the judging panel on ‘The X Factor (US)’ this evening to debut her new single, ‘Pretty’. The tune is the latest release from the regularly delayed US version of her ‘Killer Love’ album, which has been postponed until January.
However, don’t expect to be impressed with a range of high notes similar to those delivered by Scherzinger at the 2011 Royal Variety Performance. Instead, the singer attempted a different approach.
Watch Scherzinger in action below:
Several aspects of this performance were confusing. Firstly, it was difficult to understand a single line of the song because of Scherzinger’s singing. Secondly, the unnecessary roughness of her vocals was so jarring that I did not want to attempt to learn the lyrics. Rather, I just wanted one of the ‘X Factor (US)’ contestants to finish the song on her behalf.
Whether ‘Pretty’ will be a hit in the US remains to be observed. Yet, on thing is certain: this performance was definitely not a good way to encourage people to buy ‘Killer Love’.

Usually agree with you… but i think we heard two different performances. While the beginning was barely audible at times, once she hit the chorus… she really sold the song. Also, the song is absolutely gorgeous… great hook, solid vocals. Her performance was pretty convincing as well… some of the rough vocals at the end were a bit overdone but it was no where near the train wreck you describe above
I just don’t see it for her vocals. Its worse than Rihanna’s. At least Rihanna can billy goat on key while singing off key.
Nicole can sang. She did great to me. She showed passion, she commanded the audience, and she did a great job to me.
NA I disagree also. I think she did good and the way Shes singing contribute to the emotion of the song. I could hear the lyrics and loved the song. Wonder if America will like it
*contributes
it was okay, but she js isn’t going to be famous lol
I actually like this song after relistening to it! Press on Killer Love!
Well, it’s already been said. Great performance. A bit overdone in places, but I am digging the song. If it’s toned down a bit, it’s a surefire hit.
Omg I loved this performace, and I actually enjoyed the song. Good job Nicole!
Really liked the song and nice vocals. I want to hear the album version.
I agree with you. I found Nicole’s singing not only a bit “pitchy dawg” but unpleasant to the ear especially the big growling screaming I don’t know what to call it @ 2:21 which was certainly not “pretty.” Yes, I know the song is about not wanting to be pretty so in that case I guess she achieved her goal. As for how great this song is I could sing along with the chorus and hum along with the verses after the first verse and chorus. So typical, so average, so humdrum, so similar to all of the other 4 chord songs out there. If this was all I had to judge Nicole on I would say she does not have the X FACTOR.
Trent, you are just hating… Nothing less. She slayed it. Big time.
ur always harsh on nicole, lots of great reviews web wide, this is kinda biased IMO

If SHE tones down the rock unroll vocals, maybe. Acoustic possibly. Good lyrics. I understand where she’s coming from in the song. It’s something she regarded as a compliment her wholelife “pretty” only to find it was indeed a slap in the face to who she is as a person.
I actually like this performance. I mean she still won’t gain any relevance in the USA, but this was good. She is a good singer.
i like it ,, but dont think its gonna be a hit
