Rihanna stayed true to her word and premiered her new song, ‘We Found Love (Ft. Calvin Harris)‘, this morning. The track, which will officially impact Top 40 radio on October 11th, is the lead single from her new album, which is scheduled for release in the fall.
Listen to ‘We Found Love’ below:
Predictably, Rihanna ventured further into the trendy Dance/Pop territory instead of taking a risk by pushing for artistic growth. There is absolutely nothing about this record that reflects the fact that she has been in the industry for over 6 years or that she is one of the most successful acts of the last decade.
In fact, all Rihanna did on this record was lazily drift through her falsetto, which was bolstered by heavy reverb, over typical Dance production that could have easily been put forward by any other performer. This makes it obvious that she is indeed only focused on scoring a hit instead of being a true artist.
I am deeply disappointed by this record. Hopefully, someday Rihanna will realise the potential that she has to take West Indian culture to new heights and forge a niche in the music industry that none of her contemporaries would be able to emulate. Until that time I will politely ask her to stay off my iPod.
How dare you Rihanna.
Please why would she do reggae, she doesn’t want her career to end. Man Down flopped
Nothing New.
Omg Trent that Tyra gif! !!! *dead *
I agree completely. The same old played out dance music. And I could understand if the song had a little life to it . Its boring. Her vocals on the track= boring. The lyrics= boring. No depth or meaning. Just another attempt to score another number one. Over it. #next
And where did Man Down go? Nowhere! Why use a failed formula.
Im so dissapointed right now!
No lyrical context, no melody, no vocals (no surprise there). It doesn’t go anywhere, no bridge. It’s completely static.
THAT GIF IS A GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING. HILARIOUS.
It’s OKAY….It’s not as good as her other songs thoug.
Break It Off>>>>>>This.
She found what? Love? Gurl bye. She better find a good record- not with this PARTY ROCK ANTHEM + GIVE ME EVERYTHING wannabe! And lemme not talk about the Breezy producer she poached. Redundancy is really paying off.
wow… folks can be judgemental and negative. It aint no bess tune, but its catchy and we knowww it gonna be big. Rihanna knows she doh have to challenge herself much, she is at a spot where she doesn’t NEED to.
When beyonce’s run the world came out, ppl said the same, not her best, not lyrically good, blah blah, but the album proved to be some great work.
Let Rihanna be, you try putting out music that the world over loves and appreciates.
You try putting out album after album, that is her jobbbbb! and she CAN!!!!!!!
Rihanna learning from the best!!! Lets see those other girls, and everyone in general, have the drive and work ethic to do the same nah!!! Noooo, they sell 200 albums and sit and complain how the ‘industry’ is!!! The ‘industry’ is FOR rihanna now, she might as welll milk it. i.e. until beyonce comes back to slay!
i felt like rihanna was trying to kill me by making me deft. first of all where are the lyrics in this song. its not even a complete song this the end im sure.
This is the thing….This IS the music that Rihanna makes! She knows her formula. This is why i said before that Rihanna is NOT to be taken seriously. Shes not going to make any ground breaking music. Shes not going to make music that will last. Shes making music for now. So yea its generic but its cute for her. I like it. Is it her best? No. Rihanna tried to be different with Rated R and ppl didn’t respond. People didn’t respond to Man Down either. Shes sticking to the Formula for Success. She’ll always makes hits, not history. Yall want to much out of her. Asking Rihanna to grow is like asking KE$ha to grow. Its not gonna happen.
Actually a lot of modern day artist aren’t about growth. I can’t name not even one where I will be listening to their song ten years down the road.
When I 1st heard the title I instantly thought of Mariah’s “Joy Ride”…dunno why but I did. Then I heard the song and I instantly remembered to take out the trash. (yes that was shade)
WOW, that was painful. The single cover and her song dont match. I was very naive and thought she would make a effort to grow this era. The single cover gave me hope. This song is like every other song in the chart. Anyone could have sung this. WoW WoW WoW. Utter rubbish. The beat calvin did is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too light. He doesnt do her any favors.
Hoply, people will FIANLLY WAKE UP and not buy into this rubbish. She doesnt deserve a No.1 with this. WoW!
It just sounds like shes saying “we found love in a hopeless place” throughout the song..very repetitive. No Bueno
Trent give it up!!! You always seem to take out your frustration on SUCCESSFUL Artists! smh..The song is catchy and will do well, go RiRi
It will do better than Run This Flop I’m sure. It’s fantastic!
I waited till I heard the song before I made a comment…. I’m not a big Rihanna fan but this song is okay. I feel like she has shown no growth though. This sounds like every other pop song on the radio. I want her to expand and be a trendsetter or at least switch it up a bit. Her fans will eat it up but I’m not impressed. I sorta wish Chris Brown could write her another song like Disturbia or something. Thats my fave song by her.
ohhhh americanboi and team breezy!
Far to repetitive……….. It’s kinda annoying……
I love Calvin Harris but this song is so predictable!! Sounds like left over material from “Loud”
CRAP! For the ppl talking about Run The World (Girls), One thing for sure Beyonce didn’t follow the trend she took a risk.
@Ayana … Bey didnt follow a trend? Of course not.. she just used a sample that had been overused.. how original? …Right, anyways.. lets not forget this “Trend” you speak of has been ignited by non other than miss Rihanna herself! She and the other pop chart-toppers have followed the “trend” she started back in 07 with Umbrella..Which clearly has worked for her and others 4 years later
So whats really the shade about?
This sounds like a DAVID GUETTA COLLABORATION.
I need something fresh!! I think she should go into a borderline Rock/Pop direction for this re-release. Or take a break..
@Team Breezy
You obviously dont know the definition of trend. Beyonce did dont follow a ‘trend’ with RTW. A sample isn’t a trend unless EVERYONE is using it and therefore helps the trend (the sample) move forward.
And are you saying that Rihanna is a trendsetter? and you’re using “umbrella” as an example? LMAOOO So why has she left the Umbrella-style music for Euro dance/ pop? Dont u dare say she began that. You stans are diluted, delusional individuals. Rihanna has been going with “whats hot right now” instead of trying to evolve and make her OWN style of music. Run the World (as horrible as it was) is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT then what we’ve heard and what is out now. Beyonce took a risk and it failed ( to her standards) but atleast she took a risk and didnt ABANDON her original fanbase to “fit in” and “sell records”. If Rihanna keeps following a trend she will be remembered as “That Bajan girl with the hit SINGLES”
This song is whack
@Britt
Umbrella wasnt euro/dance pop? o_0 …R u kidding me? That song made her in the UK! What do you consider it, r&b? Chile..
Im not gonna get into a Ri/Bey stan war because I dnt care for either, Im just keeping it real when I say that the girl has been the most successful in becoming this hits singles queen because SHE is one of the originators of this so-called “generic” movement.
PS: bey abandoned her original fan base a while ago! Lets say, Bday .. it wasnt until 4 that she went back to her DIL r&b roots.. Ri abandoned her original sound but at least has kept consistent since GGGB … and these crazy stans may lie, but BillBoard dont lie…
