Did you know that actress Phylicia Rashad released a Disco album in the late 1970s?
Then known by her pre-marriage name, Phylicia Ayers-Allen, Rashad released her ‘Josephine Superstar’ debut in 1978. The Disco piece was a concept album that told the story of the legendary performer Josephine Baker and was co-written by Rashad’s former husband, Victor Willis, of the Village People (he was the original police officer in the group).
Rashad later joined ‘The Cosby Show’ in 1984 as Claire Huxtable and starred in several Broadway shows, including ‘Dreamgirls’. Listen to ‘Colors’ from her ‘Josephine Superstar’ album below:
