This is probably the smartest thing that he has ever said. In a recent interview with Hip-Hop N more, The-Dream admitted that it was “stupid” of him to release the Garbage ‘Love King’ album and that the project was quite “rushed”.
Read what he had to said about the circumstances in which the record was put forward as well as his upcoming ’1977′ and ‘The Love IV (Diary Of A Mad Man)’ albums below:
‘Love King’ was rushed and the label was in transition. I was the only one that was stupid enough to put out an album while in transition. A “Rookie Mistake”. But it helped me a lot in re assuring to me that it takes a team to win.
I’ve grown more and I’m producing outside of myself more and that’s really a joy. I’m really happy about my production growth in being able to have the patience to completely take a record from A-Z.”
“['The Love IV'] is coming along great. I want to maybe add a couple of tracks but I decided to wait while I was negotiating my new deal. Also, that made me want to thank my fans and release this 1977 album to them for their time and supporting my movement of music.
The Sound Of ’1977′ is dopeness! Lol. It just feels gritty and I’ll wait to talk about how L4 sounds. But.. Definitely sticking to the formula.
While I’m humble enough to ask for features [for 'The Love IV'] it’s really hard to get them. It’s hard today to protect what you already have so some artists I see could fit perfectly on a record and change things.
There is a fear that artists who are not song-writers face. And that fear is failure. And I completely understand but I have to at least ask. The people who end up usually on records that I’ve written or performed are more likely the ones without fear. I think it’s my duty to push. But not everyone thinks so.”

It’s great to hear The-Dream be so open about his music. After hearing the brilliance of his ‘Love vs Money’ LP, it was blatantly obvious that ‘Love King’ was something he recorded while sitting on the toilet (with the exception of ‘Yamaha’).
Now if only he would admit that the Mariah Carey’s ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ and Ciara’s ‘Basic Instict’ were rushed as well. Honesty is the best policy.
